There are hundreds of hectares of “soft estate” (plantations and verges) associated with the trunk road network in North and Mid Wales, which are also maintained by the Agency.

These areas represent a valuable ecological resource and provide links within and between the many important and designated conservation sites within North and Mid Wales.

Limiting the obvious negative impact of roads upon wildlife is another major concern for the Agency. This is one of the aims for NMWTRA implementing improvement targets for habitats and species on the network, in line with the Welsh Government’s Trunk Road Estate Biodiversity Action Plan (TREBAP).
